Strengthening Understanding of Fard Kifayah: I-KPKT Staff Gain In-Depth Knowledge Through Islamic Funeral Management Course 2026

To enhance understanding of the obligations of fard kifayah (communal duty) and equip staff with Sharia-compliant practical skills, the Housing and Local Government Training Institute (I-KPKT) organised the Islamic Funeral Management Course 2026 on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.

The four-hour course aimed to provide comprehensive exposure to the institute’s staff regarding the procedures of handling the deceased, from the final moments before passing to interment. The programme was structured into two primary sessions that holistically integrated theoretical knowledge with practical application.

Theoretical Modules and Practical Field Sessions
  • Theoretical Session (Melor Lecture Hall): Commencing at 8.30 am, the session delivered vital knowledge on fard kifayah, detailing immediate actions required when attending to a dying person (nazak), etiquette and decorum following death, and foundational Sharia guidelines prior to proceeding with funeral arrangements.
  • Hands-on Practical Session (I-KPKT Surau): Held at the I-KPKT Surau beginning at 10.30 am, participants took part in hands-on practical training encompassing the proper method of bathing the deceased (ghusl), measuring and preparing the burial shroud, orderly enshrouding (kafan) techniques, the performance of the funeral prayer (solat jenazah), and burial procedures including the recitation of the talqin.

The organisation of this course not only provided an avenue for I-KPKT staff to gain in-depth knowledge of funeral management—an area often regarded as challenging—but also instilled personal confidence in every participant to fulfil this communal obligation should a bereavement occur within their families or local communities.
