INTRODUCTION

The Centre for Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Studies is a training centre that acts as a catalyst for human capital development in the fields of solid waste management, public cleansing, and the circular economy. In line with the aspirations of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to become a high-performing and outcome-oriented ministry for the well-being of the people, this study centre provides a comprehensive learning platform through the implementation of courses, intellectual programmes, professional training, and knowledge-sharing activities for Federal Government, State Government, and Local Authority officers, as well as industry players and relevant stakeholders.

This study centre emphasises competency development in the aspects of policy, legislation, governance, regulation, operations, technology, innovation, and best practices in solid waste management and public cleansing. Through a learning approach based on knowledge, skills, and industry experience, the Centre for Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Studies strives to produce a competent, competitive, and future-ready workforce capable of meeting current and upcoming challenges towards creating an efficient, resilient, and sustainable solid waste management system.

OBJECTIVE

1. To empower the competency and professionalism of human capital in the field of solid waste management and public cleansing through quality, relevant, and high-impact training.
2. To enhance participants’ understanding of policies, legislation, governance, technology, innovation, and best practices related to solid waste management and public cleansing.
3. To produce a competent, innovative, and principled workforce to support the implementation of planning, regulatory, enforcement, and operational functions within the solid waste management and public cleansing sector.
4. To serve as a centre of reference and knowledge sharing in the field of solid waste management and public cleansing through strategic cooperation networks with government agencies, academic institutions, industry, and related organisations.
5. To encourage the adoption of technology, innovation, and circular economy practices towards more efficient and sustainable resource management.
6. To support the implementation of the national agenda, including Public Cleansing Reform, the transformation towards a circular economy, and the nation’s commitment to inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban development.
7. To develop training programmes that are responsive to current needs and future challenges in the solid waste management and public cleansing sector.
