Centre for Urban Planning and Urbanisation Studies

INTRODUCTION

The Centre for Urban Planning and Urbanisation Studies provides training to all Assistant Town and Country Planning Officers and Town and Country Planning Officers in Federal, State, and Local Authority (PBT) agencies related to the field of urban planning and urbanisation. This study centre provides theoretical and practical training with the aim of enabling participants from every agency to practise the knowledge acquired and apply it in their respective agencies. The modules implemented are based on the core duties of Assistant Town and Country Planning Officers and Town and Country Planning Officers, in line with current developments in urban planning and urbanisation which are increasingly complex and dynamic. Theoretical exposure and hands-on urban planning and urbanisation sessions can further enhance the quality and products of urban planning and urbanisation in line with current needs.

OBJECTIVE

he Centre for Urban Planning and Urbanisation Studies is a crucial study centre as one of the mandatory functions of Local Authorities is urban planning and development. This centre will provide opportunities for PBT staff and other government agencies performing town planning duties to understand the processes, procedures, and protocols of urban planning within administration and daily technical works at their respective agencies. Generally, this centre will conduct:

  1. Management and Implementation of the One Stop Centre
  2. Practices and procedures for Planning Permission Applications
  3. Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC)
  4. Urban Development Management
  5. Forward Planning
  6. Development Plans (National Physical Plan, National Urbanisation Policy, National Rural Physical Planning Policy, Structure Plans, Local Plans, and Special Area Plans or Special Action Plans)
  7. Development Control
  8. Safe City Initiatives
  9. MURNInets
  10. Development and Settlement Plans for Traditional Villages
  11. Preparation of Special Project Plans
  12. Planning Legislation and Guidelines
  13. Geospatial Information System (GIS) and AutoCAD
  14. National Urban Agenda (NUA)
  15. Heritage and Conservation Management
